Storm make it 2-0 in Arkansas after victory over UAM

MONTICELLO, Ark. — The Southern Nazarene Women's Basketball team picked up their second win of their four-game Arkansas series as they dominated the Blossoms in high-scoring fashion, putting up a 94 to Monticello's 44 inside Steelman Fieldhouse.

Another Arkansas matchup they have not seen in nearly two years, the Storm (9-7, 5-5 GAC) picked up where they left off the last meeting in 2020, when they defeated the Blossoms (0-17, 0-7 GAC) by 15 inside the Sawyer Center. Shooting almost 50% from the field and forcing 25 Blossom turnovers, the Storm tripled the score, and more, this contest pushing their way up to a 7th place conference position.

The Storm started off with a 10 point lead (19-9) after the first and never looked back. The offense exploded for SNU as they went 10-16 from the field while holding the Blossoms to just five points going into halftime (43-14).

This surge from the Storm continued on and they racked up a total of 51 points in the second half and sunk five threes to cap off a monstrous W on the road.

Cassandra Awatt added another double-double to her list, racking up 22 points and a game-high 10 boards. Jaycee Soap was letting the three-ball fly all evening, smashing her previous career-high in points, tallying 25 that evening, while getting five of SNU's seven three-pointers to fall.

Abby Niehues and Lauryn Reither were other Storm members in double-figures scoring 11 and 10 respectively. Niehues also blocked six of Monticello's shots and grabbed eight boards. Reither added a spark of the bench pulling down four rebounds and grabbing three assists.

Kennedy Gillette caused problems for UAM's offense all game, coming away with six steals while adding six assists and four boards.

Southern Arkansas is next up for the Storm, another Arkansas team SNU has not played in quite some time. The Muleriders sit at 4-7 in the conference, picking up wins against Oklahoma Baptist, East Central, and Henderson State recently. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22nd.
