Storm fall in Florida

SNU’s Men’s Soccer team comes up short in season opener against Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.  –  Things weren't in favor for the Southern Nazarene Men's Soccer team Saturday night as Embry-Riddle took the 3-1 victory, spoiling the first game in SNU's Florida visit.

The physical match tallied a total of 26 fouls, 13 for both teams, and five yellow cards, three given to the Eagles and the remaining two to the Storm. Between the teams, each fired a total of 9 shots and both teams were able to have four on target. Yet, Embry-Riddle's offensive effort was able to grant them the 3-1 win in Daytona Beach.

The Eagles were the first to get on the scoreboard shortly after the nine minute mark but SNU's Juan Rodarte gave SNU their first point of the game just after the 20 minute mark. Both teams were scoreless the rest of the period, but Embry-Riddle came out on top in the second half, outscoring the the Storm 2-0, which gave the Eagles the eventual victory to spoil SNU's season opener.

Rodarte was SNU's spark that evening, tallying three total shots, one shot on goal, and was responsible for the single goal scored by the Storm. Nathaniel Mederos also added some positive play, tallying two total shots and one shot on goal, but just wasn't enough to get the Storm's offense the energy it needed to bridge the scoring gap.

Eric Romero and Federico Anzoletti were also notable members that match each tallying one shot and one shot on goal.

The Storm's Florida visit is not over with yet as they look for a redeeming win against Florida Southern College September 6th.
