Volleyball Downed in Weatherford

Crimson Storm fall 3 games to 1 in matchup with SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla.—The Southern Nazarene Volleyball team was unable to keep up with Southwestern Oklahoma State as the Bulldogs took a 3-1 win (25-19, 21-25, 25-18, 25-11) over the Storm on Thursday night in Weatherford.

The Crimson Storm (4-8, 0-5 GAC) have been unable to notch their first Great American Conference win of the year as a tough beginning to the conference schedule has left the Storm on a five-game skid. Southwestern Oklahoma State (8-5, 4-1 GAC) was the latest to knock off the Crimson Storm as they used a strong offensive attack to secure the win.

The Bulldogs tallied 48 total kills in the match on a .158 hitting percentage. The Storm countered with 33 kills on just a .040 hitting percentage. Southern Nazarene put together a great second set win, but were completely shut down over the course of the final two sets, hitting below 0 at -.059.

Trailing 22-14 in the first set, Southern Nazarene put together a nice 5 point run to get the deficit to just 3 points. That would be as close as they got, though, as SWOSU responded with three straight points to take set one.

A great run late in the second set allowed the Crimson Storm to bounce back and tie the match at 1 a piece. The squads were knotted at 17, but the Storm rattled off six straight points, including 3 aces from Isabella Mitchell, to take command of the set. Those three aces were just 3 of Mitchell's 6 total in the match.

Breckynn Myers put together a big double-double on the night, racking up 24 assists and 17 digs. She is now averaging 22 assists and 8.5 digs per match.

Bailey Grimes had a big night at the net, tallying 6 total blocks to go along with her 5 kills and 3 digs.

For the Storm they will try to get back to their winning ways as they take a break from Great American Conference play to host Cameron University on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Southern Nazarene is 6-3 all-time against Cameron, taking the last two matches in five-sets. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. inside the Sawyer Center.
