Aggies defeat Storm in Season Opener

SNU Women's Soccer falls short 3-2 in match against Oklahoma Panhandle State

GOODWELL, Okla. – After a few back and forth goals, the Southern Nazarene Women's Soccer team came up short against Oklahoma Panhandle State in their season opening match this afternoon in Goodwell, Oklahoma.

Even though SNU (0-1) out-shot the Aggies (2-3) 14-5 throughout the game, Panhandles' four saves to the Storm's zero propelled them to secure the win late in the second half.

Panhandle was the first to hit the leader board early in the first half at the 19 minute mark to set the match at 1-0. Five minutes into the second, SNU's Alejandra Andrade answers with a point assisted by Nikki Lohr, which tied the game 1-1. Past the 60-minute mark, shots were fired between the two teams leading Panhandle to reclaim the lead, but an eventual goal secured by Kaitlyn Deaton re-tied the game 2-2 just past the 68-minute mark.

It was a nail-biter the rest of the way, but the Aggies found the back of the net late in the second to propel them to victory, putting the final score at 3-2. Alejandra Andrade set the tone for the Storm tallying four total shots, three shots on goal, one goal, and one assist throughout the match. Kaitlyn Deaton also was a spark for SNU, securing two shots on goal and one goal that afternoon.

Karla Ramirez and Hope Berry added some positive stats to the match as well posting a total of three shots on goal put together.

SNU heads to Denver this weekend to take on Regis University on Monday September 6th.
