BETHANY, Okla. —The Southern Nazarene University Men's Soccer Team are showing a strong conference start as they picked up their second Great American Conference win this afternoon at Wes Harmon Field in Bethany.
SNU (5-3, 2-0 GAC) pulled off the 1-0 victory to Harding (0-4, 0-2 GAC) which they haven't seen since 2018 when they defeated the Bison 2-0 at home. The Bison have maintained a 13 win record throughout the SNU-Harding series to SNU's four wins prior to this match. Now, SNU checks off another win against the Bison while defending their No.1 title in the Great American Conference Standings.
It was a heated competition right from kickoff, with the first yellow card given just past the 20th minute. The match would see four of those with two administered to each team along with 24 total fouls committed on the afternoon. The Storm were the offensive threat that match, outshooting the Bison 24-7 with only five of those shots on target compared to the Bison's three.
Defensive efforts were present on both ends as the score remained 0-0 when the first half came to a close. The score would stay until SNU was the first to punch one in late in the second off of an
Angel Lopez corner kick that was found by
Daniel Trojman securing SNU's first and only goal of the afternoon.
The Bison scrambled the remainder of the period looking for every opportunity to extend the time on the clock, but SNU came out on top securing another conference win this season.
Trojman had another dominate performance for the Storm tallying two shots on the afternoon with one of those responsible for SNU's single goal that took down Harding. Lopez also added to the offensive tempo with seven shots, two shots on goal, and one assist that afternoon. Both
Federico Anzoletti and
Nathaniel Mederos had four shots that match with one shot on target each.
In goal, with his first start of the season, Josh Nichols tallied three saves for the Storm.
SNU will see another road game next weekend on October 2nd for third conference match against Northeastern State with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
