ECU Edges Storm in Series Opener

SNU Softball falls 2-1 to the Tigers on Friday.

BETHANY – Southern Nazarene's softball team tried to keep their recent hot streak going on Friday as they played host to East Central Tigers at Cypert Athletic Complex. Coming into the game, SNU had won their last four games and eight out of their last nine. Unfortunately, the Crimson Storm (16-15, 14-8 GAC) were unable to extend that streak as they fell to the Tigers (13-15, 9-13 GAC) by a final score of 2-1.

The pitching was sensational for both sides as neither team scored a run until the fifth inning. The Tigers struck first as they pushed a run across in the top of the fifth to take the 1-0 lead.
East Central added to their lead in the sixth with another run to extend it to 2-0 before the Storm finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning thanks to Hailie Fellers, as she scored on a wild pitch.

No more runs were scored by either team as ECU closed the door on the Storm in the seventh.

Fellers starred at the plate for the Crimson Storm as she put together one run and one hit. Joining Fellers with a hit in the contest was Natalie Jones, Mahina Sauer, Caitlyn Curlee, and Sydney Sundbye

Brooklyn Sparkman got the start in the circle for the Crimson Storm and had an excellent game striking out six Tiger hitters as she earned the loss on Friday in 7.0 innings pitched.

Southern Nazarene will get their chance at revenge tomorrow as they face East Central in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Cypert Athletic Complex.
