Storm fall in Game One

SNU drops the first game of the OBU series 15-5 on Military Appreciation Day on Friday afternoon in Bethany.

BETHANY – The Southern Nazarene recognized the Men and Women in service with their 1st annual Military Appreciation Day, presented by the SNU Veterans Service and the SNU Alumni Services. Dressed out in their Military camo, the Crimson Storm (6-29, 4-24 GAC) welcomed the Oklahoma Baptist Bison (22-12, 19-9 GAC) to Feland Field under clear skies but could not hold off OBU as they fell 15-5 on Friday afternoon.

The Bison built an early three-run lead through the first four innings, having the score read 4-0. It wasn't until the bottom of the 4th that SNU put a run on the board after Peyton Vinyard was hit by a pitch, sending Jarrett Phillips home. The next inning, the Crimson Storm would again cross the plate off a Cole Embrey double into right field, sending Clay Lockett home.

SNU rounded off their highest-scoring inning of the day with an EJ Taylor score off an Austin Glock walk and Cole Embrey scoring after Noah Ellis reached first base on a fielder's choice.

As the score read 13-4, the Crimson Storm managed one last run when Colby Entwistle brought in Peyton Vinyard. The Bison had built an insurmountable by this point and went on to closeout SNU on the day.

Junior EJ Taylor led Southern Nazarene from the plate as he went 2-for-3 and scored one run. Colby Entwistle struggled initially but turned things around to hit on two of his five attempts, bringing in one run. Cole Embrey and Clay Lockett were the only other SNU players to register a hit as they went 1-for-3 and 1-for-4, respectively. Each also crossed the plate once and Embrey collected an RBI.

Six pitchers from the Crimson Storm bullpen took their shot at the Bison as Payne Maga clocked the most time, pitching through 4.0 innings. Maga struck out four and allowed seven runs as he was credited with today's loss, bringing his season record to 1-7. Adrian Flores took the mound to pitch through 1.2 innings, strikeout three, and allow three runs. Brandon Rezek and Zach Birkle allowed two runs apiece while Jacob Johnson allowed one in his time. Connor Pasby concluded the work as he closed out the top of the 9th inning.

Southern Nazarene will return to play tomorrow and finish off their series with Oklahoma Baptist for Senior Day. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
