Rangers Best Storm

The offensive attack of NWOSU proves to be too much as the Rangers close out SNU in Saturday's doubleheader at Feland Field.

BETHANY – The Southern Nazarene Baseball team capped off their series against NWOSU in a doubleheader on Saturday at Feland Field. In the first game, the Storm (3-20, 3-15 GAC) fell 1-17 to the Rangers (14-8,12-6 GAC), but in game two, SNU showed a lot more fight as they lost 10-6.

Game 1
The Rangers got up early in the first game and they never looked back.

The Crimson Storm finally got on the scoreboard bottom of the 7th inning thanks to a solo home run by EJ Taylor. However, it was too late for the Storm to mount a comeback, and the Rangers lead was insurmountable.

Junior EJ Taylor was the lone bright spot at the plate for the Storm. Taylor had one run, one hit, and one RBI. Jacob Owen got the start pitching for the Storm in this game. Owen gave up five runs and threw one strikeout in his time on the mound. Adrian Flores, Elijah Brady, Brandon Rezek, and Zach Birkle all came in relief for the Storm. They all combined to throw seven strikeouts.

Game 2
In the second game of the day, the Rangers started off with a 6-0 run through the top of the 3rd inning. The Storm finally answered at the bottom of the third inning with Jarrett Phillips single into center field that brought Clay Lockett home to bring the score to 6-1.

In the upcoming inning, SNU mounted a massive comeback, kickstarted by a Colby Entwistle fly ball into center field that sent Tyler Broyles home. Later in that same inning, EJ Taylor smacked a three-run homer to allow Clay Lockett, Peyton Vineyard, himself across the plate. By the end of the 4th, the Crimson Storm had their deficit to just one as the score read 6-5.
SNU posted one more desperation score as Jarrett Phillips knocked a solo shot over the left field wall to tack on one more, this was not enough as the Storm fell in the finale.

EJ Taylor had a terrific game at the plate with one hit, one run, and three RBIs. Jarrett Phillips also had a good outing with two hits, one run, and two RBIs. Clay Lockett also starred for the Storm with two hits and two runs.

Payne Maga got the start at the mound for the Storm as he allowed six runs and threw one strikeout. Brett Rexroad and Jarrett Phlilips came in relief for SNU, combining for a total of five strikeouts and four allowed runs.

Southern Nazarene will take the field again next Friday, April 9th, against the East Central Tigers (3-20, 3-15 GAC). First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
