BETHANY - The Southern Nazarene softball team was back in action Sunday afternoon to host another outing with the Southeastern Oklahoma State to wrap up the series. The Crimson Storm (6-8,4-2 GAC) weren't able to get the victory over the Savage Storm (4-1, 2-1 GAC) despite putting together a valiant effort as they fell 8-5.
Â
The Crimson Storm were almost flawless in this game on the defensive front as they only had one error the entire game. Even though SNU lost they hit the ball well at the plate as demonstrated by their five RBI.
Â
In the first two innings of action, the Crimson Storm were held scoreless. In the third inning,
Natalie Jones hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field which allowed
Chloe Pender to walk in for the Storm's first run of the day. After Southeastern struck first, SNU trailed the Savage Storm 3-1 at the end of the third inning.Â
Â
Southeastern would go on to score four runs in the fourth inning and then one more in the fifth inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead over SNU. The Crimson Storm needed a rally at the plate.Â
Â
In the sixth inning,
Sydney Sundbye hit a fly ball out to center field and earned an RBI as
Caitlyn Curlee scored on her sac fly. Shortly after,
Chloe Pender reached on a fielder's choice which allowed
Kahea Wakinekona to round home and shorten the Storm's deficit to five at 8-3.
Â
In the seventh inning,
Caitlyn Curlee made a huge play at the plate for the Storm as she rocketed the ball right past second base and earned two RBI as both
Natalie Jones and
Mahina Sauer scored on the hit. The Crimson Storm would ultimately come up short despite a gutsy performance.
Sophomore
Natalie Jones had a great performance with one RBI, two hits, and one run.
Caitlyn Curlee also starred for the Crimson Storm with two hits, two RBI, and one run.
Chloe Pender also showed off her talents as she put together one RBI, one hit, and one run.Â
Â
Chelsea Vandiver got the start for the Crimson Storm in the circle. Vandiver allowed three hits and three runs.
Brooklyn Sparkman and
Cassidy Davila came in relief for the SNU. Sparkman struck out four batters and Davila allowed just one hit in her time.
Â
Southern Nazarene hits the road next week as they travel to Shawnee to take on rival Oklahoma Baptist (8-3, 4-2 GAC) on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.Â
