Tigers Best Storm

SNU loses their grip on the lead as ECU scores two unanswered to drop the Storm 2-1 on Saturday evening in Bethany.

BETHANY, Okla. – The Southern Nazarene Women's Soccer team hosted the East Central Tigers on Saturday afternoon for a Great American Conference matchup at Wes Harmon Field. After getting on the board first, SNU failed to hold their lead as they fell 2-1 to ECU.

The Crimson Storm posted season-highs in shots attempted, shots on goal, and total points today as they gave the Tigers everything they could handle. Comparably, SNU attempted three more tries than ECU as the shot margin concluded at 16-13. East Central managed to account for more shots on target with ten while Southern Nazarene tallied seven.

The contest got a little chippy at times as a total of 14 fouls were called, but nothing to warrant a color card.

For the first time this season, the Crimson Storm struck first as Senior Hanna Arthur chipped in a shot, assisted by Erin Greenslade, to make the score 1-0 at the 42th of play. This score was the first of Arthur's career at SNU.

With a one-point cushion generated in the first half, the Storm only had to deny the Tigers from scoring to win. However, ECU had different plans as they quickly scored two goals in the early minutes of the second half to solidify a lead and win 2-1.

Hanna Arthur led SNU with her one goal on one attempt. Many others play with fire as Josie Van Pelt fired a season-high six shots, with one hitting on target. Delaney Stewart and Alejandre Andrade both shot twice and managed to tally an attempt on goal. Saira Zamarripa shot once on target while Linda Nigg, Karsyn Matthews, and Hope Berry managed a shot apiece. Goalkeeper Maci Atalla kept busy throughout the contest as she faced 10 total shots on her way to eight saves.

Southern Nazarene will have a bit of a break as they won't play until March 27th against Northwestern Oklahoma State. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in Alva.
