ALVA, OK – The Southern Nazarene Women's basketball team made the trip to Alva on Saturday afternoon to take on the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State. Five different SNU players finished in double digits as they dominated NWOSU 83-63 on Saturday afternoon in Alva.
SNU wins their second straight game as the Crimson Storm (4-5, 4-5 GAC) simply outplayed the Rangers as they led in almost every statistical category. Southern Nazarene ended the day on a 49.2%. shooting clip after holding NWOSU to just 37.5%.
The Storm played stifling defense as they forced the Rangers to commit 16 turnovers and managed to block eight shots. A majority of those blocks came from
Abby Niehues who finished with a seven, one shy of her career-best of eight. This marks the second consecutive game that Niehues has registered seven denials. Niehues would also lead her team in scoring as she collected 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting and also brought down seven rebounds.
Senior guard
Alexus Jones had an electrifying second half as she compiled 16 points, nine assists, and two rebounds. The Aussie
Georgia Adams would note season-highs in points and rebounds as she concluded the afternoon with 15 points and six boards. Freshman
Payton Jones would continue her stellar season helping her team with 14 points, two steals, and three rebounds off the SNU bench. The last to finish in double-digits was
Cassandra Awatt who shot 5-of-6 from the floor, chipping in 12 points. Awatt would also grab six rebounds and dish out four assists.
The first quarter displayed an even matchup between the two squads, but the Storm would make the difference visible as they compiled 25 points on 60% shooting in the second quarter to have the score read 40-29 going into the break.
SNU would shut the door on a comeback as they lit up the score with 43 second-half points, a nine-point advantage over the 34 points NWOSU managed to put together. Southern Nazarene would make it two straight wins since Thursday as they leave Alva with an 83-63 win.
Southern Nazarene will have a quick turnaround as they will play host to Oklahoma Baptist (2-11, 1-10 GAC) on Monday night in the Sawyer Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
