EDMOND ‑ Southern Nazarene's softball team was back in action Friday for the Edmond Regional Festival with a doubleheader against the Northeastern State Riverhawks, and later in the day the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. The Crimson Storm started the opening game off with Northeastern State at 11:00 a.m. It was a very close and competitive match-up, but SNU ultimately fell short 7-5. SNU's game with the Bronchos started at 3:00 p.m. and Southern Nazarene lost this game as well with a score of 10-2.
In the first inning of the Crimson Storm's (0-4, 0-0 GAC) opening game against the Riverhawks,
Mahina Sauer doubled to right field. This hit led to SNU's first run of the day, which was accredited to
Sydney Everhart. Both teams were held scoreless until the fourth inning when NSU (2-1) scored their first run of the day.
In the fifth inning,
Natalie Jones hit a single to left field which allowed
Morgan Brannon to score SNU's second run of the game. Later in the inning, Cailyn Curlee singled to center field, and
Mahina Sauer rounded home to give SNU the 3-1 lead. NSU scored the next six runs to give them a 7-3 lead on the Crimson Storm. Later,
Sydney Everhart hit a single up the middle which allowed
Skye Ah Yat and Alyx Belk to score off of. Those runs put SNU within two runs at 7-5, but unfortunately SNU couldn't get anything else going.
Sydney Everhart led the way for the Crimson Storm with three hits, two RBI's, and one run.
Mahina Sauer had an exceptional game as well with one RBI, one hit, and one run.
Brooklyn Sparkman was in the circle for SNU in the first game. Sparkman struck out an astounding 8 hitters.
Chelsea Vandiver came in to pitch for SNU in the fifth inning. Vandiver allowed just two hits and two runs. Madi Arnold also came in to pitch for the Crimson Storm in the fifth inning. Arnold allowed one hit and one run.
Hannah Sattler pitched the last inning for the Crimson Storm and recorded a strikeout in her time in the circle.
In the first inning of SNU's nightcap game against Central Oklahoma (4-0), the Bronchos got out to a quick 2-0 start. SNU fell further behind in the second inning as the Bronchos put up another 5 runs to push the scoreboard to 7-0 in favor of UCO. Both teams went scoreless in the third and fourth innings. Later,
Mahina Sauer hit a single up the middle of the field which
Sydney Everhart and
Emma Nightengale scored off of. SNU was held scoreless the rest of the game, and the Bronchos scored 3 more runs to push the game out of reach for SNU.
In her two at-bats,
Mahina Sauer put together two RBI and two hits.
Sydney Everhart also had a good game with one RBI and one hit.
Chelsea Vandiver was the first pitcher on the mound for SNU in this game. Vandiver pitched for just one inning.
Jayleigh Totten came in to relieve Vandiver in the second inning.
Hannah Sattler came in shortly after and pitched for four innings. Madi Arnold came in in the last inning to finish out the game for SNU
The Crimson Storm will be back in action next Friday as they play in the UCO/OC Festival. Their first game will be against Newman. Opening pitch is scheduled for 12:30pm.
