SNU falls in Season Opener

The Storm drop their season opener 5-0 to Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee.

SHAWNEE, OK – The Southern Nazarene Women's soccer team kicked off their 2021 season as they made the short trip over to face-off against the Oklahoma Baptist Bison. The Crimson (0-1, 0-1 GAC) Storm could not spoil OBU's (2-0-1, 1-0 GAC) GAC opener as they fell 5-0 in Shawnee on Friday night.

The Bison were too strong offensively as would fire 27 shots on the day, 14 of those being on target. The Storm only managed 12, with seven of those hitting on goal. Oklahoma Baptist jumped out early as they were able to reach the net by 22nd minute mark of the first half. Not too long after, the Bison managed to surpass SNU's defense for a second score to make it 2-0 going into the break. The tale was the same in the second half as OBU piled on three more scores to make 5-0 overall.

The high volumes of shots from the Bison kept Sophomore goalkeeper Maci Attalla busy all evening as she tallied nine total saves in the contest.
Offensively for the Storm, Forward Alejandre Andrade led the way as she would fire four shots, two on goal, during the matchup. Josie Van Pelt would take two shots on goal as well.

Other notables were Delaney Stewart who took two shots and Nikki Lohr who took one shot that was on goal.

The Crimson Storm will look to rebound this Monday as they travel to Arkadelphia to take on Ouachita Baptist (2-1, 0-0 GAC) in a 6:00 p.m. GAC contest.
