Bison Outlast Storm

A strong second-half from OBU propels the Bison over the Crimson Storm 85-76 in Shawnee on Monday night.

SHAWNEE, OK - The Southern Nazarene Men's basketball team made the short trip over to Bison Hill to face-off against the western division-leading Oklahoma Baptist Bison on Monday night. Unfortunately, cold spells plagued the Storm (9-7, 9-7 GAC) in the second-half and allowed for OBU (12-4, 12-3 GAC) to come out with an 85-76 win at their place.

This game produced an offensive shootout as the first half saw both teams shoot over 57%. The Crimson Storm shot 64% on 16-of-25 shooting, slightly higher than the 57.1% the Bison posted. SNU knocked down 7-of-11 from the arc and led in almost every category, except offensive rebounds. SNU held their largest lead of the half with 14. Manny DixonAdokiye IyayeKarlyn Kenner all reached double-digits in this half as Southern Nazarene led 43-39 heading into the break.

A cool cloud draped itself over the Storm as they experienced a few cold stretches on the way to shooting 40% from the field while the Bison shot 51.7% in the second-half. The half alone saw eight different lead changes and eight ties as OBU closed the door late and secured an 85-76 win to end the Storm's three-game winning streak.

Transfer Junior Adokiye Iyaye led the Storm, scoring with 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting and dished out a couple of assists. Karlyn Kenner had a career-night as he posted highs in points and tied a high in rebounds. Kenner dropped 18 points, knocked down four triples, brought down six rebounds, and poked away one steal.

Manny Dixon had an efficient outing as he came away with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and stole two passes from the Bison. Maik Mouwer proved productive off the bench as he collected 10 points, scrapped for nine rebounds, and blocked one shot. Nick Davis saw action early in the first half, but foul trouble made his playtime short as he chipped in four points and two boards.

Southern Nazarene will return to action Thursday to travel to Weatherford to battle against Southwestern Oklahoma State (7-8, 7-8 GAC). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
