ADA, Okla. – No. 25 ranked Southern Nazarene hit the road Thursday evening for a battle with East Central and SNU never found a rhythm as they fell 3-0 inside the Kerr Activities Center.
For the match, the Crimson Storm (2-1, 2-1 GAC) hit just .065 while the Tigers (1-2, 1-2 GAC) were clicking on all cylinders with a .238 clip on their home floor. ECU racked up double-digit kills in all three sets while SNU had just one double-digit kill frame. The Tigers recorded 38 digs compared to 30 for the Storm and had 8 blocks compared to just 4 for SNU. Both teams had eight service aces while the Crimson Storm's 21 attack errors proved to be costly.
Grace Miracle led the way for Southern Nazarene with eight kills on a .278 hitting clip while also adding a block and three digs.
Meagan Ellis and
Jacy Braziel each tallied five kills as Ellis also recorded five digs.
Sunny Batschelett had four kills and four blocks while
Breckynn Myers had 22 assists to go along with a couple of kills.
The Crimson Storm struggled out of the gate in the opening set as they tallied seven errors and East Central racked up 15 kills on 24 attempts. ECU took the first set 25-13 to take the early 1-0 lead. SNU's defense picked up in the second set as they held the Tigers to a .150 clip, but the Storm's nine kills weren't enough as East Central took the second stanza 25-19 and took a 2-0 lead.
The Storm's offense remained stagnant in the third set but SNU was able to compete. After a hard-fought effort in the third frame, East Central edged the Crimson Storm 27-25 to send head coach
Kevin Ingram and company home with their first loss of the season.
Southern Nazarene will be on the road again next week as they travel to Alva on Tuesday night to battle Northwestern Oklahoma State. First serve with the Rangers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
