ADA, Okla. — An early goal by the Southern Nazarene University Women's Soccer team seemed like it would set the pace for their conference match against East Central, but things would quickly change as the Tigers (2-7, 1-4 GAC) redirected the momentum in their favor as they defeated the Storm (1-9, 0-4 GAC) 5-1 in Ada.
ECU secured their first conference win of the season against the Storm as they tallied 29 shots, and 20 shots on goal that morning while the Storm finished behind with 12 shots and seven shots on goal.
SNU's Delaney Stewart made a statement early in the match with a quick punch in right past the 8th minute courtesy of Kaitlyn Deaton.
ECU picked up the pace and answered the Storm's early energy with two points just before the 45 minutes was up sending the score to 2-1.
After the half, the Tigers maintained their first half surge and continued with three more goals to end the match with a final score of 5-1.
Stewart gave SNU that early push with her one goal that match. Deaton grabbed one assist that morning while adding some offensive efforts with three shots and two shots goal. Nikki Lohr added two shots and two shots on goal for the Storm.
In goal, Abigail Moreno reached a career-high of 15 saves against the Tigers which is one under the most saves in a match ever recorded by SNU.
The Storm see the field next Thursday, October 14th where they face Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
