SEARCY, Ark.—The nationally ranked No. 21 Harding Bisons took care of Southern Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon as they limited the Storm to just 156 yards of offense in the game.
Harding (5-1, 5-1 GAC) got off to a quick start as they returned the opening kickoff 69 yards down to the SNU 16 yard line. They used that excellent field position to grab the lead over the Crimson Storm (0-6, 0-6 GAC) three plays later on a 26 yard touchdown pass following a penalty.
Harding would continue to tack on, racking up 28 points in the first half. The Storm got on the board in the second quarter after a 41 yard field goal off the foot of Ryan Reid, the third 40+ yard field goal of Reid's career.
Southern Nazarene finally got across the end zone in the third quarter after an extremely long 17 play, 75 yard drive. The touchdown drive was capped off by a two yard touchdown pass from Jarvis Davis to Brandon Perez, the first touchdown of his career.
A strong ground attack from Harding continued in this one as they racked up 310 yards on the ground. They pounded away with 57 attempts on the ground for an average of 5.4 yards per attempt. The Storm countered with 126 yards on the ground on 36 attempts.
Jarvis Davis tallied 86 yards on the ground to lead the way for the Storm. It was a busy day for the defense trying to keep up with the physical ground attack of Harding. Trenton Smith was the leading tackler, accumulating 10 on the afternoon with 1 being for a loss.
The schedule lightens up for the Storm next time out as they return home to host Southwestern Oklahoma State, who will also come into the game winless after falling 30-10 to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon. It will be a Thursday night under the lights game as kickoff is set for 6 PM on October 14th.
