Storm Fall at #18 Henderson

Southern Nazarene falls 34-3 in tough matchup with No. 18 Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Southern Nazarene traveled to Arkansas for their final road game of the season, falling 34-3 at No. 18 Henderson State.

Henderson State (8-1, 8-1 GAC) showed why they are one of the top teams in the nation, playing stifling defense and continuously limiting the Southern Nazarene (1-8, 1-8 GAC) offense. The Storm finished with 236 total yards, the majority of which came late when the game was well in hand.

The Reddies quickly opened the game with a 10-0 lead, scoring a field goal on the opening possession before adding a touchdown on their second possession. They did not punt the entire game, although the SNU defense did create two fourth down stops. The Reddies would later extend their lead to 24-0.

Henderson State was again driving late in the second quarter and seemed to be in prime position to extend their lead even further. With the ball at the SNU 7 yard line, Josh Johnson would jump in front of a pass in the endzone and return it 48 yards the other way. With just 35 seconds remaining on the clock before halftime, SNU moved the ball to the Henderson 29 yard line. As time expired, Ryan Reid drilled a 46 yard field goal, putting the Storm on the board.

That field goal was the end of the scoring for the Storm as they would be shutout in the second half. The Reddies would put 10 more points on the board in the second half as they cruised to a 34-3 win over the Crimson Storm.

The big blow to the Storm came early in the second half. SNU was driving with a chance to cut Henderson's lead down to two scores. Instead, the Reddies would jump in front of Jarvis Davis's pass and take it 68 yards the other way for a pick-six. The huge swing gave Henderson a monstrous 28 point lead.

Reid Roelofs totaled 100 yards receiving for the first time this season. That moves him into fourth place with 1,441 receiving yards for his career. He is just 7 yards from moving into third all-time at Southern Nazarene.

Elijah Calhoun led the way for the Storm on the defensive end with 9 tackles and a pass breakup.

Southern Nazarene has two games left on the schedule, both of which are at home. The Storm take on Southern Arkansas next Saturday before closing out the season hosting Oklahoma Baptist for homecoming. SNU has never beaten Southern Arkansas. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. next Saturday at the SNU Football Stadium.
