Surprise Ending

Storm face tough 2-1 road loss against Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Okla. — The toughest matches are the ones on the road and the Southern Nazarene Men's Soccer team was hit with one this afternoon in Arkadelphia as they came up short in the 2-1 loss against Ouachita Baptist.

The Storm (9-5, 6-2 GAC) hosted the Tigers (2-8-2, 2-5-1 GAC) in their conference opener back in September where they came out victorious kicking off their stream of GAC wins. This was not the case Thursday afternoon as Ouachita flipped the narrative and surprised SNU as they snuck by with a late second half goal to give them the victory at home.

The Storm came out quick on the offensive end as they took 12 shots in the first half with half of those on target. The Tigers trailed behind only taking four shots with two on target. The Storm finished with 23 total shots taken that match with just nine on goal. The Tigers were way under this number with 10 total shots and four on goal, but, four of those on target shots were a success for Ouachita.

This offensive surge quickly turned into a success for the Storm as Daniel Trojman punched one in off of a Harei Maeda pass just 15 minutes into the first. With the score sitting at 1-0, Ouachita answered with a shot to the back tieing the match at 1-1 going into halftime.

The score remained as shots were fired from every angle but not one was giving either team any advantage. Later in the second, Ouachita found a gap within the SNU defense and managed to strike one in just past the 75th minute.

With the score at 2-1, SNU scrambled to find an opening but time dwindled and the Tigers took the 2-1 victory over the Storm.

Trojman was SNU's offensive kickstarter as he tallied seven total shots with six of those on target and one resulting in SNU's early goal. Maeda notched one assist on the match as he found Trojman for the first point on the board. Nathaniel Mederos took every opportunity he was given as he finished with five shots with one on target. Shun Kushima also added to the offensive energy as he tallied five shots with one on goal that afternoon.

In goal, Ramiro Diez managed to secure two saves against the Tigers.

SNU remains on the road as they head to Searcy to face the Harding Bisons at 11 a.m. on Saturday October 23rd.
