SEARCY, Ark. — With a brutal 109 minutes of play and a tie waiting to be broken, the Southern Nazarene Men's Soccer team was hit with a hard loss Saturday afternoon as Harding broke the 2-2 score with a late second overtime goal to give them the 3-2 victory.
SNU (9-6, 6-3 GAC) outshot the Bisons (2-6-2, 2-4-2 GAC) 17-11 that afternoon and 11 shots on goal to the Bisons' six. Although the Storm saw more opportunities that match, Harding managed to have one more successful goal that led them to victory.
The Storm had a hot start securing the first two goal of the match. Angel Lopez found the back of the net first while Shun Kushima found it second giving the Storm the early 2-0 lead. Harding remained scoreless that first half and the Storm sat on top as the first 45 was up.
As the second half commenced, Harding began to creep their way back into the match as they score their first goal just past the 34th minute. Harding would score again later that half to tie the match at 2-2.
The scoreboard did not budge the remainder of the half as both teams were forced into a third period as the score still read 2-2. The first 10 minutes was up and not a single goal was scored sending the Storm into a second overtime against the Bisons.
In the final minute of the fourth period, a tie was in sight as neither team was seeing any success at a winning goal. This quickly changed as Harding found an opening in that last minute and sunk one in to end the match at a final 3-2 reading.
Angel Lopez started the Storm off on a good note tallying six total shots with four of those on goal and putting SNU up on the board first with one goal. Shun Kushima also gave SNU some offensive fire as he scored the Storm's other goal that afternoon.
Esteban Ramirez was another offensive threat that match with his three shots and three shots on goal while Daniel Trojman secured two shots and two shots on goal.
In goal, Ramiro Diez tallied three total saves.
The Storm are back at home next week where they will host Rogers State for the second time this season on Thursday October 28th at 7:30 p.m.
