Downed in Dallas

Storm play three tight sets, but fall in each to Dallas Baptist

DALLAS, Texas—Coming off of a pair of wins last weekend, Southern Nazarene came into Tuesday's match feeling good but were unable to close out any sets against Dallas Baptist as the Patriots took three very tight sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-23) on their way to a win over the Crimson Storm.

Southern Nazarene (7-11, 2-7 GAC) put together a fairly strong offensive performance, hitting .263 in the match, but they would be outdone by Dallas Baptist (9-4, 6-4 LSC) who hit .280 over the course of three sets. The Storm also struggled a bit from the service line, recording no aces and three service errors.

All three sets would be tight throughout with the largest lead being just 5 points in favor of the Patriots on a couple of occasions. The Storm held an advantage throughout the majority of the first set but a 6-0 DBU run pushed them in front 23-18. The teams then traded points until Dallas Baptist put the set away on a Price Reeves kill.

Neither team put together any run greater than three points in the second set, but again it would be Dallas Baptist who ultimately came away with the win in the see-saw second set.

After falling behind 2-0 in the match, the Storm found themselves trailing 21-16 in the third set, but showed a lot of toughness, battling back to take six of the next seven points to tie the game at 22 a side. Unfortunately for SNU, they were unable to ever take the lead, eventually falling 25-23 in the final third set.

Whitney Bowie and Shantalle Demirjian each had extremely efficient nights on the offensive end. Bowie finished with 10 kills while hitting .563, while Demirjian added 8 kills hitting .583.

Bailey Grimes was dominant at the net, totalling 7 blocks to match a career-high.

The Storm will look to regroup over the next couple of days before they return to Great American Conference play in Arkansas. SNU will have two road games this weekend, taking on Henderson State on Friday before a battle with Ouachita Baptist on Saturday. Friday's match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
