Storm Fall Short

Women's Soccer runs out of time in close match as Rangers take 3-2 road victory

BETHANY, Okla. — After three consecutive conference road games, the Southern Nazarene University Women's Soccer team returned home for a weekend matchup matchup where they fell 3-2 against Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

The Storm (1-11, 0-6 GAC) fought hard on the offensive end taking 16 total shots with 10 of those on target but could not match the Rangers' (8-3-1, 3-2-1 GAC) opportunities as they managed to take 24 shots with 16 of those on goal.

NWOSU surprised the Storm right from kickoff as they found an opening and snuck one in right past the two-minute mark. The Rangers were picking up speed and punched another one in just past the fourth minute where they took the lead to 2-0 still with 41 minutes left in the first.

Just when NWOSU thought they had a two-nothing lead going into halftime, SNU's Keierra Wright catches the Rangers on their heels and scores with one minute remaining to put SNU behind a single goal going into the second period.

The Storm trailed the Rangers the entire second half looking for every opportunity to tie up the match. NWOSU answered those hopes and sunk one in right at the 63rd minute to put them back up by two as the board now read 3-1. Time was ticking and SNU saw no success. With 10 seconds remaining in the match, Delaney Stewart manages to cut the Rangers lead to 3-2 as she punches in a last second goal to have the Rangers leaving Bethany victorious only by one score.

Wright gave SNU that energetic start as she had one shot with it resulting in her first goal scored this season. Stewart was the offensive spark for the Storm as she tallied five shots, four on target, and one of SNU's two goals that afternoon. Karla Ramirez also showed another positive performance with her four shots and three shots on goal that match.

In goal, Eliya Alvidrez anchored the defense as she notched 12 saves on the afternoon.

The Storm head back to Arkansas for their second match up with Ouachita Baptist Thursday, October 21st at 2 p.m.
