BETHANY, Okla. — After their first conference loss against Roger's State two days ago, the Southern Nazarene Men's Soccer team channeled their normal dominance in Saturday night's matchup against Northeastern State where they came out victorious in clean sheet fashion 3-0.
Offensive pursuits were on the the lower end this match as SNU (9-4, 6-1 GAC) only took 11 that night while the Riverhawks (6-7, 4-3 GAC) were just behind with 10. On target shots were almost identical as the Storm tallied four while the Riverhawks tallied three. Yet, three out of SNU's four on target shots managed to find the back of the net giving them the three-goal advantage over NSU.
Halfway through the first, Angel Lopez did his usual and found teammate Daniel Trojman locked and loaded for SNU's first goal that night. The Storm never let up as Nathaniel Mederos dances past defenders to find Guy Esquivel who punches in SNU's second goal and his first score of the season.
After the half, the action was rather silent as the Storm stood at 2-0 for the first 25 minutes of the second period. The Storm picked up the pace as Esquivel finds a gap after Mederos' pass and sinks another goal for SNU tallying his second goal that match to put the Storm up 3-0.
The Riverhawks could not answer as SNU defended their lead and secured another conference victory to keep them atop the Great American Conference.
Esquivel was SNU's allstar that night as both of his shot attempts resulted in two of the Storm's goals. Trojman was also on the attacking front as he took three shots with one a success for the Storm. Mederos was feeling generous that match as he assisted Esquivel twice to give him his first two goals on the season. Lopez was also on the lookout as he assisted one of SNU's three goals against NSU.
Ramiro Diez defended the goal with his three saves that match against the Riverhawks.
The Storm are back on the road to Arkansas next week where they face Ouachita Baptist for the second time this season October 21st with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. SNU defeated the Tigers 3-2 in their last matchup at home and look to repeat that memory in Arkadelphia.
