Storm Fall in Shawnee

SNU Men's Basketball drops their first road game of the season 73-58 to rival Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. – It was a rough night for Southern Nazarene as they couldn't get much going at Bison Hill, dropping their second meeting of the season against Oklahoma Baptist 73-58 inside the Noble Complex.

The Crimson Storm (4-3, 4-3 GAC) had a lid on the basket most of the evening as they shot a season-low 35.6 percent from the field, including just 6-of-25 (24%) from behind the 3-point line. On the other end, the Bison (4-3, 4-2 GAC) knocked down 12 triples while shooting 44.8 percent on their home floor. They out rebounded SNU 39-36 and forced 14 turnovers out of the Crimson Storm and really made life difficult for their offense. The loss on Monday night is the first road loss of the season for Southern Nazarene.

Adokiye Iyaye finished the game with a team-high 20 points to go along with four rebounds. The junior guard also went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Iyaye was the only Storm scorer who finished in double figures as Mo Wilson II and Karlyn Kenner each finished with eight points. Wilson II added seven rebounds and five assists while Kenner's pesky hands swiped away three steals. Manny Dixon finished with seven points and five rebounds while Xavier Bryant came off the SNU bench to add seven points as well.

Southern Nazarene was slow out of the gate as they made just nine field goals in the opening 20-minutes on their way to 33 percent shooting in the half. Oklahoma Baptist jumped out to a 14-6 lead and later extended that to 20-11. The Bison held SNU to 26 first half points as head coach Adam Bohac and company faced a six-point deficit heading into the break.

After shooting 40 percent in the first half, OBU started to heat up in the second on their home floor. They shot 50 percent and knocked down seven triples to make any kind of a comeback difficult on the Storm. An Iyaye layup cut the Bison lead to 61-53 with 6:00 to play, but that's the closest SNU came as Oklahoma Baptist finished off the Storm and hand them their third GAC loss of the year.

OBU was led in scoring by Brantly Thompson who scored 20 points and knocked down 6-of-11 3-point tries. Harrison Stoddart added 15 points while Nigel Wilcox finished with nine.

Southern Nazarene returns home to the Sawyer Center in their next contest on Thursday night as they battle Southeastern Oklahoma State. Tip-off with the Savage Storm is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and as a reminder no fan attendance is allowed in the Sawyer Center through January 31st.
