RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – After falling on the road on Thursday night against Harding, Southern Nazarene couldn't put the pieces together this afternoon in a 66-45 loss to Arkansas Tech.
The Crimson Storm (15-9, 12-8 GAC) dropped their third straight game as they shot just 29 percent from the floor while going 1-for-15 from 3-point range. The Golden Suns (16-8, 13-7 GAC) shot 39 percent on their home floor and knocked down 8-of-18 (44%) of their 3-point tries. Tech forced 14 SNU turnovers in the game while the Storm forced just seven out of ATU.
Arkansas Tech's bench came to play on Saturday as they tallied 26 bench points compared to just eight for SNU.
Abby Niehues was the only SNU player to reach double-figures in scoring as she finished with 10 points to go along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Kennedy Gillette and
Myriam Garcia each chipped in eight points as Gillette added five rebounds while Garcia pulled in six.
Jaycee Soap finished with six points while
Alexus Jones added five.
Southern Nazarene got off to a great start in the first quarter as they outscored Tech 18-12 in the opening frame. They extended their lead briefly in the second before the Golden Suns ripped off 23 points in the period to take a 35-26 lead into halftime.
The second quarter shooting woes carried over into the third quarter for the Crimson Storm as they scored just eight points in the frame and faced a 53-34 deficit heading into the fourth. The lead ballooned to over 20 for Tech and any sort of comeback from SNU was put to rest as the Golden Suns cruised to the victory on their home floor.
Southern Nazarene will be back in action next Thursday night inside the Sawyer Center against Southern Arkansas. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
