Record Setting Win

Dunn and Speight shatter records in GAC/SNU history in 85-65 win over Harding

SEARCY, Ark. - It was a night of celebration for Southern Nazarene as Jhonathan Dunn and Micah Speight both broke all-time records in the Great American Conference and SNU history as the Crimson Storm took care of Harding 85-65 on the road.

After Dunn's third 3-pointer of the night, he passed Brent Kimmel (2004-08) on the SNU all-time list for most 3-pointers made in a career with 286. This is just another record Dunn will add to his remarkable resume as the Storm have plenty of season left.

Speight broke the GAC all-time steals record, previously held by SNU alum, L.B. Willis, with 206 career steals. Just earlier this month, Speight broke the all-time GAC assist record as well.

Still, in the midst of all this chaos, it was business as usual for the Crimson Storm (20-7, 14-5 GAC) as they handled the Bisons (8-17, 3-16) on Thursday night.

Southern Nazarene lit the Rhodes-Reaves Fieldhouse on fire, shooting 56 percent (29-52) from the field and 50 percent (15-30) from behind the 3-point line. This effort from SNU reciprocated on the defensive end as they held the Bisons to 19-of-52 (37%) shooting from the floor and 8-of-28 (29%) from downtown. The Crimson Storm were able to poke away eight steals and force a total of 11 turnovers.

On the way to his record-setting night, Jhonathan Dunn managed to finish the night with 30 points, making it his eighth 30-point game of the season. To accompany his barrage of points, Dunn added five rebounds and a couple steals. Micah Speight was a menace as usual as he stuffed the stat sheet and flirted with a triple-double, scoring 17 points, grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out nine assists, and snatching six steals.

Tyler Williams turned in a cool 13-point performance, knocking down three from the arc and adding an assist as well. Brady Mulkey would be next on the scoring tally for SNU as he accounted for seven points and an assist in his time. Manny Dixon didn't light up the scoreboard, scoring just five points, but put his team in good positions as he came down with five rebounds.

It seemed to be a neck-and-neck game in the first half as the score showed SNU holding a 41-36 lead at the break. The Storm shot 55.5 percent from the floor while Harding managed a 40.7 percent shooting clip. This tide quickly turned as Southern Nazarene came out hot in the second half, shooting 56% from the field and never looked back, eventually adding 44 points to their total and beating the Bisons 85-65.

Southern Nazarene will continue their Arkansas road trip as they travel up to Russellville to take on Arkansas Tech (12-13, 8-11 GAC) in their final GAC road game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
