Rangers Complete Sweep of Storm

SNU drops their game against the Rangers 14-4 on Sunday

Alva, Okla. - Southern Nazarene closed out its first Great American Conference series of the year with a 14-4 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State in the Sunday in Alva.

The Rangers' (5-6, 3-0 GAC) hot bats carried over from Saturday as the Crimson Storm (4-7, 0-3 GAC) had no answer for NWOSU's lethal offensive attack. Junior Trever Smith got the start on the mound today and took his first loss of the season as he gave up five runs and struck out two in 4.0 innings of work.

Brenden Boily, Brandon Rezek, Austin Slate, and Zach Birkle would each come in to relieve as Boily allowed four runs, Rezek allowed two, Slate allowed one, and Birkle two, as the Storm search for a way to stop the force of the Rangers.

Clay Lockett led things at the plate for SNU as he went 3-4, collected an RBI, and scored two runs. Senior Christian Thorpe went 1-1, scoring a run, while Colten Cassida went 1-3 with a run scored and one RBI.

The game got off to close start as SNU was able to score one run in the first to pop things off. NWOSU would answer the call of the Storm with a couple scores of their own in the bottom of the inning. After Southern Nazarene went scoreless in the next inning, at the top the third, a Carlos Michel single sent Lockett home to make the score 2-3.

From this point forward, the Rangers were too much to handle as they scored eight unanswered runs, leaving the score sitting at 11-3 going in the seventh. The Crimson Storm would mount a subtle comeback in the seventh, scoring two runs, but the NWOSU bats keep swinging as they added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Southern Nazarene will return to play on Friday and Saturday as they play host to a series with the East Central Tigers (3-7, 1-2 GAC). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
