Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Kale Fouts, SNU Sports Information

White Hot Home Streak

The Storm move to 8-0 at home as they push past Henderson State 79-70 in overtime.

BETHANY - Southern Nazarene stormed into the Sawyer Center on "White Hot" night with one thing on their minds, and one thing only. Grit and toughness.

The Storm made it a point to redeem themselves after going winless on the road last week. SNU certainly had their fair share of struggles the whole night, but they weren't going to be denied. Southern Nazarene ultimately battled back to win the matchup with Henderson State 79-71 in overtime on Thursday night.

The Crimson Storm (12-5, 9-4 GAC) struggled all game shooting the ball as they finished at 41.7% from the floor, and only 2-11 from beyond the arc. The Reddies (13-6) (8-5 GAC) were forced into bad shots, as they shot 26-65 from the floor.

SNU was greedy on the defensive end as they forced Henderson into a whopping 23 total turnovers. Another big storyline was the Crimson Storm's domination in the paint. SNU put together 52 points in the paint, compared to 34 from the
Reddies.

The leader fro SNU was
Alexus Jones. Jones played the largest part in putting the Storm back into this game, as she scored 16 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. Jones also scored the bucket that put the game into overtime. Myriam Garcia has now recorded back-to-back 20+ games as she scored 21 points on (9-of-17) shooting, and also put together six rebounds and three steals for the Crimson Storm. Sonia Sarda couldn't keep her hands off of the ball, as she put together six steals en route to her 11 points on the evening.

Jaycee Soap had a quiet night scoring as she scored nine points, but made her noise everywhere else dishing out four assists and grabbing four rebounds. Cassandra Awatt and Nefer Leon were productive off the bench as they came in to score six and four points, respectively.

In the first quarter, SNU struggled shooting the ball only shooting 7-of-19 from the field. However, the Storm put together a great defensive effort to start out the game, forcing Henderson into eight turnovers. Overall, it was a very highly contested quarter, and both teams each led the game a good amount of time.

The Storm led 17-16 going into the second quarter, but it was all Henderson for the rest of quarter as  they led all but one minute. The shooting struggles continued for the Crimson Storm, as they finished shooting 4-of-12 from the field, going into the second half.

Southern Nazarene kicked off the second half with a big 14-3 run, but the Reddies wo
uld just not give in as the third quarter score sat at 48-43. The Reddies took the lead with four minutes left to go in the fourth, after being down by as many as 14.

HSU was absolutely red hot in the fourth. They scored 21 points, and also put together five three pointers. Henderson State went on a huge 15-4 run in the fourth, but that wasn't enough to put away the Crimson Storm. SNU battled their way back, set up a shot by Alexus Jones that ultimately sent the game into Overtime. The Crimson Storm were absolutely electric in Overtime, and came away with a very hard fought win.

Southern
Nazarene will be at home again on Saturday to face Ouachita Baptist (4-15, 1-12 GAC) in the Sawyer Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
