ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southern Nazarene had its six-game winning streak against Ouachita Baptist snapped on Thursday night in a 84-78 loss inside Bill Vining Arena.
The Crimson Storm (9-4, 3-2 GAC) entered the night riding a four-game winning streak and looked to open 2020 on a high note, but fell short against the Tigers (6-4, 3-2 GAC). Ouachita shot a season-high 54.9 percent from the floor while SNU shot 42.9 percent. The Tigers out-rebounded the Storm 33-26 and dominated in the paint, scoring 38 points to the Storm's 22. OBU's bench went wild on Thursday night, scoring over half their points by racking up 48 points compared to just 16 bench points for Southern Nazarene.
Jhonathan Dunn continued his scoring barrage as the senior tallied his seventh 30-point game of the season, tallying 31 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Dunn went 3-for-5 from three-point range and converted 10-of-12 free throws.
Karlyn Kenner had his best performance in his young career for SNU as the freshman scored a career-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Ashton Charles also added 16 points and knocked down 4-of-6 tries from downtown.
Micah Speight had a tough night shooting, but added nine points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Southern Nazarene knocked down six triples in the first half as the Storm jumped out to a 24-15 lead. SNU later pushed their lead to 34-22 before Ouachita closed the final 3:20 of the half on a 12-0 run to tie the game 34-34 entering halftime.
The Tigers couldn't miss in the second half as they shot 60 percent from the floor and made 16-of-17 free throw tries. Midway through the second half, SNU was able to push their lead back to double-digits at 58-47, but Ouachita once again made a push and later tied it at 64-64 with 3:50 to play. Southern Nazarene went cold in the final three minutes as the Tigers completed the upset victory on their home floor.
The Crimson Storm will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they go across the street in Arkadelphia to take on Henderson State at 3:00 p.m.
