TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Southern Nazarene University women's soccer team hit the road to take on the RiverHawks of Northeastern State University on Thursday afternoon, and the Crimson Storm ran into a buzz saw.
NSU (3-0) scored twice in the first half, and a third goal late in the game, as SNU (1-2) fell to the RiverHawks 3-0.
NSU came out of the gates at a full sprint, controliling the play early. NSU took the first 15 shots of the match, with eight of those attempts on the target. SNU's
Maci Attalla stopped the first five shots on the target, but in the 14th minute, NSU Mariah Nicolet slipped a shot into the back of the net to give NSU the 1-0 lead. Callie Rucker added a goal in the 25th minute to double NSU's lead, and the RiverHawks took that margin into the intermission.
SNU had a better time generating possession in the second half, but the RiverHawks kept the Crimson Storm off the board, and in the 73rd minute, Maranda Ritter capped the scoring, giving NSU a 3-0 lead which was also the final margin.
SNU did set a new record in goal in the match, recording a program sing-match best 19 saves. Attalla made 10 stops in 45 minutes of work, and
Ashlynn Pritchett stopped nine shots in the second half.
SNU will return home on Saturday afternoon to take on the Rogers State University Hillcats (2-1) at Wes Harmon Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
