BETHANY, Okla. - The Southern Nazarene University men's soccer team was unable to stifle a last-minute comeback in their home opening loss to the Chaparrals of Lubbock Christian University on Thursday afternoon. The game was closely contested up until the last minute of the game when the Chaparrals nailed a desperation goal in the 90th minute to claim the 2-1 victory.
The first half saw SNU (1-2) putting up a tough defensive front against undefeated LCU (3-0) and at the half, the score was 0-0. The match was physical throughout, with a total of 25 fouls and five cautions issued.
Southern Nazarene was able to put the ball into the net first on a penalty kick made by
Eric Romero in the early part of the second half. It took a while for Lubbock Christian to find their way even, but a penalty kick of their own was made by Fernando Flores in the 82nd minute. Flores would again convert on his next shot with only a few seconds left in the game.
The Crimson Storm will be back in action Saturday, at home, to take on the Patriots of Dallas Baptist University (0-2). Kick off is slated for 7 p.m.
