Bison Bats Too Much for SNU

OBU takes down SNU 16-2 in the first game of the series

BETHANY — Southern Nazarene couldn't slow down the Oklahoma Baptist offensive attack in a 16-2 loss on Friday afternoon at Feland Field.

The Bison bats were red hot in the first game of the series, as the Crimson Storm's rival racked up 15 hits in the game. Jackson Berry got the start on the mound for SNU and he took his sixth loss of the season. He tossed 1.0 inning and allowed six runs on five hits. Tyler Thompson, Zach Birkle, Triston Graves, and Landon Walker each provided at least an inning in relief for Berry as Birkle recorded three strikeouts while Graves tallied two.

Jack Campbell and Cole Lee led the way at the plate for SNU as the duo each recorded two hits in the contest. Emilio Escobedo launched his fifth home run of the year as he finished 1-for-3 at the plate and recorded one of the two RBIs in the game for the Storm. Garrett Perez added the other RBI as he went 1-for-4 at the dish.

Oklahoma Baptist wasted no time in taking the lead at Feland Field as the Bison scored four runs in each of the first two innings to take an 8-0 lead into the third. OBU added five more runs in the top of the third to take a 13-0 lead, and later made it 14-0 with another run in the fourth. Escobedo's home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth got SNU on the board before Oklahoma Baptist scored another run in the top of the fifth to make it 15-1.

Perez's double down the left field line in the bottom of the fifth scored Cobi Ceron to make it 15-2, before the Bison scored one more run in the top of the seventh to finish off the Storm in seven innings.

Southern Nazarene will wrap up its 2019 season on Saturday with a doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist at Feland Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the Senior Day festivities taking place beforehand at 12:40 p.m.
