SEARCY, Ark. - Errors proved to be costly in the early goings for Southern Nazarene baseball as they dug themselves into a 6-0 hole after two innings and eventually fell to Harding in the first game of a three game series by the score of 8-3.
Harding plated three in the first inning and added three more runs in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Tyler Thompson (L, 3-4) got the start and allowed six runs in 1.2 innings pitched, but only two runs allowed were earned.
SNU got a solid outing from their bullpen, getting 2.1 innings of work from
Ryan Mills, one inning of work from
Landon Walker, and three solid innings from
Jarrett Phillips. The Crimson Storm allowed three more runs the rest of the avenue with only one run being earned.
A Harding error got SNU on the board in the fifth to bring the score to 6-1, but the Bisons got it back in the bottom half of the fifth to make it 7-1.
Jefferson Harris gave SNU some momentum in the top of the eighth with a two-run shot to left field to bring the score to 7-3. However, Harding took advantage of another SNU error to plate one more and move ahead 8-3, eventually taking the win.
SNU did out hit Harding 10-8 led by a 2-for-3 day from Harris including the homer.
Elijah Brady checked in early in the game and went 2-for-4 with a run scored while
Cobi Ceron was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Seven of the nine Crimson Storm starters had a hit in the contest.
Garrett Perez and
Shelby Reese each had a steal.
Connor Kelly led Harding, going 2-for-5 with four RBI while Nolan Fertig was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Cole Lee may have also made GAC history with an incredible 11 putout on Friday evening.Â
SNU moves to 5-19 overall and 1-15 in the GAC. They return to action tomorrow afternoon as they battle Harding in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
