OKLAHOMA CITY - Just one day after
Mahina Sauer drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to give the Southern Nazarene softball team a win over Newman, Sauer was at it again on Saturday, this time lacing a two RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to give the Crimson Storm a 4-3 win over Colorado-Colorado Spring at Tom Heath Field on the campus of Oklahoma Christian.
After two scoreless inning, SNU came to bat in the bottom half of the third and got a one out walk from
Jacey James. Sauer made her presence as she stepped to the plate and found a gap in left center, legging out a RBI triple to give the Crimson Storm the 1-0 lead.
That lead would be doubled in the fifth inning as
Hailie Fellers came to bat and smacked a home run to center field to put SNU on top 2-0.
However, UCCS took advantage of a walk and a hit batter with one out as they got a homerun of their own over the left field wall to flip the momentum suddenly and take a 3-2 lead.
As they were Friday though, SNU remained resilient and came to bat needing at least one in the bottom of the seventh.
Peyton Robinson got things started with a single followed by a walk to James. Both Robinson and James stole second and third base to set the scene up for Sauer who put it into center field, scoring both runs, and giving SNU the big victory.
Sauer finished 3-for-4 with three RBI including a double and triple while Fellers was 1-for-3 with the homer.
Caitlyn Curlee added a 2-for-2 day while James was 0-for-2, but with two walks and two runs scored. Robinson was also 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Cheyenne Price got the start and only last one inning while
Caitlin Lewis pitched 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits.
Brooklyn Sparkman (W, 4-1) pitched the final 1.2 innings, earning the win as she allowed no runs on two hits to go with two strikeouts.
SNU moves to 5-6 on the year and will look to carry the momentum of their last two games into their home opener this upcoming weekend. SNU will welcome in East Central for both their home and conference opener as they play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m.
