BETHANY, Okla - For the first time since the 2017-18 season, Southern Nazarene defeated a nationally ranked opponent as they rolled through No. 18 Southeastern Oklahoma State University 72-60 in Sawyer Center on Saturday.Â
The setting couldn't have been any bigger as SNU welcomed ESPN to Bethany for the first time in school history. The Storm shined bright in front of the nation as they held the high-powered offense of the Savage Storm to 30.9% shooting from the floor.Â
Southern Nazarene was again tenacious on the defensive end as they forced 15 turnovers and poked away seven steals.Â
The Crimson Storm held the advantage in shooting ending the night at a 47.3% shooting clip and edged the Savage Storm in rebounds as they came down with 36 to the 31 of SEOSU.
Jaycee Soap lead the way for the Storm as she lit up the gym with 19 points, three assists, and two steals. Soap also turned in a 60% three-point shooting percentage as she knocked down 5-of-8 from the arc.
Alexus Jones was fearless in the paint with 12 rebounds and 15 points in route to her third double-double of the season. Jones was also able to dish out four assists and grab a steal on the day.
Addison Foster came off the bench hot as she stacked up 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and grabbed three rebounds in her 15 minutes.
Sonia Sarda chimed in with six points, two steals, and three rebounds. The Twin Towers,
Abby Niehues and
Myriam Garcia, were strong on the inside as they both came down with a combined seven rebounds and two blocks.Â
Starting hot and fast was the theme of the night again as Southern Nazarene outscored their opponent 17-12 in the first quarter of play. SNU is 4-2 in games they've led after the first quarter. Southeastern Oklahoma State were able to answer the strong first quarter with a bold 21 point second quarter to go into the half with a 33-31 lead.Â
Out of the break, the Crimson Storm were able to score 17 points on while holding the Savage Storm to 12 points, 21.4% on 3-of-14 shooting. SNU didn't let up as they added 24 points on 69.2% shooting in the fourth on their way to their sixth win of the season over Southern Eastern Oklahoma State.Â
Southern Nazarene will be back action in January as they open year 2020 in Arkadelphia against Ouachita Baptist. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.Â
