Matthews leads Storm in Tie

BETHANY, Okla - It seemed as the weather began to warm up, so did the play of the Southern Nazarene Women's Soccer team as they tied with the Harding Lady Bisons 1-1.

The match would head into extra periods after each team missed on close goal opportunities. The two evenly matched teams were very physical with each other from start to finish in a match that involved 16 fouls.

However, that hardly tells the tale of the impressive performance of the Storm (2-11-2, 0-8-1 GAC). They finished the game as efficiently as they could shooting just seven shots with five of those being goal. The Lady Bisons (5-7-2, 4-3-1 GAC) shot 23 times, twelve of those being goal.

The scoring didn't begin until the latter part of the first period when Karsyn Matthews buried a shot, assisted by Sydney Davenport, into the net at the 35th minute. The match would continue to go back in forth until Nicole Morgan put a shot in for Harding in the 53rd minute of play. Afterwards, constant missed shots plagued both teams as they took the game into two overtime periods where a winner couldn't be decided.

Freshman Maci Atalla was on her heels the entire night she snagged 11 saves to hold the Lady Bisons to just one goal. Karysn Matthews lead the way with three shots, one of those being the lone goal of SNU and other two were shots on target. Sydney Davenport, Delaney Stewart, and Saira Zamarripa would each follow with one shot of their own.

The Storm will return to play for senior day on Saturday as they play host to the East Central Tigers (4-10, 2-6 GAC). Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
