Defensive Battle Results in Tie

SNU and Harding battle it out and tie 2-2 in Searcy

SEARCY, Ark. - What began as a chippy match, ended as one as the Crimson Storm tied with the Bisons of Harding University 2-2 at the Stevens Soccer Complex.

A match that saw 35 total fouls hardly tells the story of the physicality SNU (2-9-1, 1-6-1 GAC) and HU (6-3-2, 5-2-1 GAC) displayed. Extra minutes proved to not be enough for either team to claim themselves as the winner. This is the Storm's first tie since the first round of the Great American Conference Championship which resulted in a 0-0 draw with Ouachita Baptist.

The Bisons were more efficient than the Storm, landing 14 of their 23 shots on goal while SNU landed six of their 13 shots on frame. Despite being outshot, SNU made it a point to cash in when the opportunity presented itself. They did just that in the 34th minute of the match as sophmore Nicolas Salkind notched his second goal of the season to put the Storm up 1-0. This lead would hold all the way into the second half.

Christian Romas broke the seal for the Bisons in the 63rd minute of play with a strike to the bottom right corner, assisted by Jack Savage, to bring the score to one all. A little over six minutes later, Senior Jhon Mareus answered the call claiming his first goal of the season, assisted by Osiel Morales. The match would continue neck and neck until the 83rd minute which saw Joe Ruedi put in a desparation goal for the Bisons to draw the match even.

Sophomore goalkeeper Reagan Haydon saw action in his second match of the season, snagging 11 saves against Harding.

Both overtime periods would present a defensive stand off between the two evenly matched teams that ended with no victor.

Southern Nazarene Men's soccer will next travel down to Arkadelphia to face the Tigers of Ouachita, this Saturday at noon.
