SNU Falls in Straight Sets to Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Southern Nazarene volleyball team fell to GAC-foe Henderson State on the road in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at Duke Wells Center.

It was a tough day on the attack for the Crimson Storm, going for 36 kills to 19 errors on 117 total attacks for a .145 hitting percentage. On the other side, the Reddies hit well all afternoon, going for 44 kills to 11 errors on 108 total attacks for a .306 hitting percentage. Henderson State also had 10 blocks and five service aces to pad their strong attack on the afternoon.

SNU struggled in the first set even though it was a somewhat even affair in the first half of the first set; however, Henderson State rattled off five straight points later in the set and held the Storm to an .043 hitting percentage en rout to a 25-16 victory and a 1-0 advantage.

The second set would be the Crimson Storm's best, going for 17 kills to only four errors for a .289 hitting percentage. However, the Reddies were just a little bit better, going for 19 kills to only five errors and a .311 hitting percentage. The Crimson Storm led 24-22 late in the set, but Henderson State scored the final four points to steal set two, 26-24, and take all the momentum going forward.

Henderson State rode that wave into the third set and dominated to a 25-10 win, scoring eight straight points during the set and taking the match.

Sophomore Meagan Ellis went for 10 kills on the day while senior Makenna Hunter and freshman Grace Miracle each had eight kills. Junior Kylie Smith had 30 assists while freshman Logan Matthews had a service ace.

Defensively, Matthews had 18 digs while Ellis tacked on 12. Sophomore Kayla Thomas and freshman Bailey Grimes each had a block assist.
