DURANT, Okla. — Southern Nazarene is now getting accustomed to closing teams out in the fifth set as it took down Southeastern Oklahoma State in the final frame in Durant (25-15, 25-27, 11-25, 25-22, 15-12).
SNU had a little bit of Déjà Vu on Saturday as they won their second straight game on the road by closing out their opponent in the fifth set. The Crimson Storm (8-8, 2-1 GAC) are now a perfect 3-0 on the season when going to the fifth set. Despite falling behind 2-1 and trailing in the kill and assist categories for the game, SNU outhit the Savage Storm (5-10, 1-2 GAC) .238 to .181. The Crimson Storm finished with 53 kills, 59 digs, six blocks, and six service aces.
Bailee Turang led the way on the offensive attack for Southern Nazarene as the junior tallied 15 kills, nine digs and one ace. She also hit .238 for the game as well.
Kayla Thomas had another strong game for the Crimson Storm as she finished with 12 kills, a team-high five blocks, two aces and recording a .235 hitting percentage.
Makenna Hunter finished with 10 kills and a couple of blocks while hitting a team high .455.
Kylie Smith tallied 48 assists in the game to go along with six digs, three kills, and one ace.
Logan Matthews finished with a team-high 18 digs and
Makayla Shonamon recorded five digs and one ace.
Southern Nazarene came out firing in the first set as they went on a 9-3 run to take a 20-13 lead which they later closed out to 25-15. After nearly taking the second set as well, the Savage Storm were able to tie the game 1-1 with a 27-25 victory in the frame. SNU was held to a -.034 clip in the third set as they only managed 11 points and fell behind 2-1.
Like Thursday night, the Crimson Storm went on to win the final two sets as they took the third 25-22 and 15-12 in the final set. The win gets Southern Nazarene back to .500 on their total record and gives them great momentum heading deeper into GAC play.
