Storm pickup their first win of the season at OC

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — After dropping its first game of the season on Thursday night, Southern Nazarene responded Saturday with a 2-1 win over cross-town rival Oklahoma Christian.

The Crimson Storm (1-1) entered the day having won four of the last five non-conference meetings with the Eagles (0-2), and can now boast a three-game winning streak against OC.

Both teams took 15 shots in the game, as Oklahoma Christian had nine shots on goal while SNU had six. Ashlynn Pritchett played an excellent game in goal for Southern Nazarene as the sophomore tallied eight saves on the night.

All three goals scored in the game came in the first half as OC took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. 1:03 later, senior Kelsi Bussert scored on a header assisted by Alejandra Andrade to tie the game 1-1.

Kayla Davis crossed a ball into the box in the 36th minute that found freshman Karsyn Matthews, who put it in the back of the net to give SNU the 2-1 lead. Both goals scored by Bussert and Matthews were their first of the season. The Crimson Storm's defense held strong in the second half as SNU took their first win of the season.

Bussert finished the game with three shots on goal, while Matthews, Rebekah Abrego, and Natalie James each had one.
