Storm take down the Grizzlies in home opener 4-1

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene's Trevor Harmon picked up his first win coaching in crimson and white on Saturday afternoon at Wes Harmon Field, as his team took down Adams State 4-1. The win is also Harmon's first career win coaching at a four-year school.

The Crimson Storm (1-1) came out firing on all cylinders right from the opening kick. They fired a couple of lasers on goal in the opening 10 minutes and had the Grizzlies (0-2) on their heels early. Adams State out-shot SNU 14-13 for the game, but the Storm had eight shots on goal compared to seven for the Grizzlies.

Senior Cutter Smith broke free in the 22nd minute and found the back of the net to give Southern Nazarene the 1-0 lead. Adams State however wasted no time in answering, as they scored a goal of their own four minutes later to tie the game 1-1.

Just 31 seconds after ASU tied the game, Smith connected with Jovanny Hernandez on a beautiful pass that resulted in another goal for the Storm to make it 2-1. Hernandez has now scored a goal in each of his first two games for Southern Nazarene.

Three minutes after halftime, SNU's Angel Lopez extended the Storm lead to 3-1 and Cristian Hernandez had some brilliant footwork in the 69th minute to find the back of the net to push the lead to 4-1.

Southern Nazarene was able to cruise the final 21 minutes of the game, as the 4-1 win for the Storm is the largest margin of victory at home since September 22, 2016 and the first home opening win since 2015.

Brayden Lovelace, Gustavo Guzman, and Carson Harding each had a shot on goal for SNU while freshman Reagan Haydon tallied six saves in goal.
