Riverhawks Ruin Storm Opener

Southern Nazarene falls 3-1 to Northeastern State to open season

BETHANY, Okla. — In the first home event of the 2018-19 season, Northeastern State took home the victory at Wes Harmon Field over Southern Nazarene in a 3-1 fashion.

The Riverhawks (1-0) out-shot the Crimson Storm (0-1) 19-4 for the game, which proved to be the difference maker. NSU had 10 shots on goal while SNU finished with three. Ashlynn Pritchett recorded seven saves in goal for the Storm, while the Riverhawks tallied three in that category. Kelsi Bussert and Alejandra Andrade each had a shot on goal for SNU.

Northeastern got on the board first in the 29th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Southern Nazarene responded in the 51st minute as Jaycie Routon took her only shot of the game and scored her first goal of the season to tie the game 1-1.

The Riverhawks re-gained the lead in the 62nd minute with a goal to make it 2-1, and then added some wiggle room with another goal in the 81st minute to put the Crimson Storm out of reach.
