SNU takes both games in the doubleheader

BETHANY, Okla. — Katelyn Brown threw a one-hitter in the opener and recorded her third save of the year in the second as Southern Nazarene swept Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday.
 
The Crimson Storm (21-24, 17-16 GAC) won the opener 9-0 in five innings before holding on for an 8-5 win in the second game.
 
The Crimson Storm wasted no time in getting on the board in the opener, as Katelyn Brown scored on a wild pitch to give them the early 1-0 lead. The Storm added two more runs in the bottom of the second when Mahina Sauer singled through the right side to score Jacey James, while Katelyn Brown scored on a throwing error on the play.
 
After leading 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third, the SNU bats erupted as Caitlyn Curlee ripped a double to left-center to score Cheyenne Reynolds to make it 4-0. Later in the inning, James singled up the middle to score Toilolo and Curlee to push the SNU lead to 6-0. The very next batter, Kaley Knox scored on a throwing error to give the Storm a 7-0 lead. Riley Brown then singled to right field to score two more runs to extend the lead to 9-0.
 
Oklahoma Baptist needed at least two runs in the top of the fifth to avoid the run-rule, but Katelyn Brown closed the door to earn her fourth complete game shutout on the season. She moved to 14-13 on on the year as she struck out nine Bison batters and allowed just one hit
 
Riley Brown led the way at the plate for Southern Nazarene as the junior finished 2-for-2 with two RBI's. James finished 1-for-3 with two RBI's and one run scored, while Katelyn Brown went 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Curlee finished 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Toilolo and Knox each had a run scored for SNU as well.
 
Brooke Tate got the start in the final game, as the senior pitched 4.2 innings and gave up four runs on nine hits. She moved to 5-3 on the year with the win. Brown tossed the final 2.1 and gave up just one run on two hits while striking out five.
 
Sauer went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, two run scored and two doubles. Caitlyn Curlee, Kai Sanchez and Kaley Knox all went 2-for-3 while Riley Brown went 2-for-4
 
Just like in the opener, the Crimson Storm got on the board in the opening inning as they pushed two runs across the plate to take an early 2-0 lead. Mahina Sauer singled through the right side scoring Jacey James in the process. Later in the inning, Sydni Toilolo walked with the bases loaded, scoring Sauer to make it 2-0.
 
Katelyn Brown scored Knox in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0, before Sauer slapped a double to left-center that scored James as SNU extended their lead to 4-0.
 
The Bison scored their first run of the day in the top of the third on a wild pitch to make it a 4-1 game, before the Storm struck again in the bottom of the inning. Curlee launched her eighth home run of the season, a solo shot to center to push the SNU lead up to 5-1.
 
Southern Nazarene scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Kai Sanchez ripped a double to center field that drove in Sauer and Cheyenne Reynolds to give the Storm a 7-1 lead. OBU scored one run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-2. The Bison added two more in the inning to make it a 7-4 game. James pushed the lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the fifth when she launched a solo shot to left for her second home run of the year.
 
The Bison cut it to 8-5 in the top of the seventh and had the tying run at the plate, but Brown struck out the final batter for the save.
