RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Southern Nazarene shot just 28.8 percent from the floor and had a season-high 26 turnovers in a 79-49 loss to Arkansas Tech Thursday night.
The Crimson Storm (7-13, 5-11 GAC) went 7-for-19 from three-point range and got 17 bench points, but it wasn't enough against the Golden Suns (17-3, 13-3 GAC) who shot 39.7% from the floor. ATU made 9-of-20 three-pointers, and turned the ball over 20 times which resulted in six points for SNU.
Abby Niehues led the way for the Storm as the freshman nearly had her third double-double of the season. She finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, and six blocked shots.
Irene Perez was the only other SNU player in double-figures as the junior finished with 10 points to go along with four rebounds.
Arkansas Tech took an 18-12 lead into the second quarter, and the Golden Suns never looked back. They increased their lead to 25-12 in the second after a quick 7-0 run, and pushed that lead to 38-24 heading into halftime.
ATU went on a 13-0 run midway through the third quarter to push their lead to 61-30, as they outscored SNU 25-11 in the period. The Crimson Storm faced a 63-35 deficit heading into the fourth quarter, as the Golden Suns cruised in the final period.
