Storm win for first time at Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Add another milestone to a record-breaking year for No. 10 Southern Nazarene as it picked up its first win in school history in Tucker Coliseum with an 81-75 win at Arkansas Tech Thursday night.
 
The win for the Crimson Storm (19-1, 16-0 GAC) is the 15th straight win and 10th consecutive on the road. That win also ties the overall series at 7-7 with six of those wins coming in Bethany.
 
It was a career-high night for Chris Stephens who scored 14 on a perfect 6-for-6 night from the floor. The sophomore also added five rebounds and two assists. Noah Starkey matched his career-high with 25 points. He also had eight rebounds, six offensive, and was 11-for-20 from the field. Jhonathan Dunn added 17 points and five rebounds while Micah Speight had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
 
SNU shot 51.7 percent from the field going 30-for-58 form the floor. The Storm were held to just 5-for-14 shooting from 3-point range, but got to the line 21 times and hit 16. Southern Nazarene outscored the Wonder Boys (14-8, 8-8 GAC) 40-22 in the paint and had 16 second-chance points. ATU took advantage of 15 Storm turnovers and turned it into 16 points. Tech shot 51.9 percent from the field and was 10-for-23 from 3-point range, but went 9-for-13 at the line.
 
Southern Nazarene led by as much as 16 in the first half and got to that point with a 12-1 run to lead 35-19 with 3:17 left in the first. SNU took a 40-27 lead at the half and built it to 16 two more times. SNU led 65-51 with 7:36 left to play.
 
That's when the Wonder Boys scored 11 straight to cut it to 65-62 with 5:36 remaining. Tech again got it to 68-65 with 4:05 to play, but came no closer the rest of the way. The Storm went 9-for-11 from the line in the final four minutes to close it out.
