BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene held Southeastern Oklahoma State to just 30.2 percent shooting from the floor in a 62-55 win inside the Sawyer Center Friday night.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak at home for the Crimson Storm (9-16, 7-14 GAC) as it was the sixth time this year they've held their opponent to under 60 points. Irene Perez led the way for SNU as the junior scored 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting, and a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range. She also dished out five assists and pulled down five rebounds.
Sidney Carolina tallied 13 points and eight rebounds for the Crimson Storm, while Kennedy Gillette scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Adrienne Berry added nine points for SNU, while Addison Foster scored seven off the bench.
Southern Nazarene shot 40.7 percent from the floor and went 6-for-16 from downtown. They outscored Southeastern 26-10 in the paint, and tallied six blocks as well.
The Savage Storm (12-14, 10-11 GAC) shot 50 percent from the field in the first quarter, but the Crimson Storm knocked down three triples to keep pace. Southeastern took a 17-14 lead into the second quarter, and that's when SNU went on their run.
Southern Nazarene started the second with a 12-2 run to take their first lead, as SOSU missed their first eight shots of the period. The Crimson Storm forced eight turnovers in the second quarter, and held the Savage Storm to just four points in the period as SNU took a 26-21 lead into halftime.
The Crimson Storm stayed hot coming out of half, as they went on a 9-2 run to push their lead to double-digits. SNU scored 23 in the period as they knocked down 10-of-19 attempts from the floor to take a 49-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
Southeastern was not going down without a fight though, as they forced five SNU turnovers in the first six minutes to cut the Crimson Storm's lead to 57-51. Carolina knocked down a three with 1:30 to play to give SNU a 60-53 advantage. That all but sealed it, as the Crimson Storm held the Savage Storm to 3-of-11 shooting in the final quarter to cruise to the victory.
