Storm Fall to No. 3 Ranked Lubbock Christian

Chaps edge SNU 65-40 on their home floor

LUBBOCK, Texas — In its third consecutive game playing a nationally ranked opponent, Southern Nazarene was ousted 65-40 to No. 3 ranked Lubbock Christian on Friday night in the Arbor Hotels Classic.

Make it two of the last three contests now for SNU against opponents ranked inside the top three in NCAA Division II, as the Chaps (3-0) held the Crimson Storm (0-3) to 27.1 percent shooting from the floor. The Storm made just 4-of-16 three-point attempts and turned the ball over 17 times in the game.

The SNU defense forced 20 LCU turnovers, but the Chaps shot 46 percent from the field and converted 13-of-16 (81.3%) of their free throws.

Senior guard Adrienne Berry led the way in scoring for Southern Nazarene as she scored 12 points and added a couple of rebounds. She was the only player for SNU to reach double-figures however, as Sonia Sarda added seven points and Abby Niehues chipped in six points to go with six rebounds.

Lubbock Christian shot 50 percent on their home floor to open the game, but the Crimson Storm kept pace and faced a 16-15 deficit after one quarter. The second quarter hurt SNU, as the Chaps held the Storm offense to 25 percent shooting. They outscored SNU 16-5 for the period and took a 32-20 lead into the break.

The Storm hung around in the third quarter as they made five trips to the free-throw line, but faced a 48-33 hole heading into the final frame. Lubbock Christian held SNU to just one field goal in the final quarter as they cruised to their third win of the season.

Southern Nazarene wraps up the Arbor Hotels Classic on Saturday afternoon with a contest against St. Mary's (Texas) at 4 p.m. It will be the first time all season that SNU has not faced a ranked opponent as the Rattlers enter the contest at 3-1 on the year.
