ALVA, Okla. — A
Katelyn Brown shutout helped Southern Nazarene steal the opening game with a 2-0 over Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Rangers took the second game 3-2 Friday afternoon.

After a scoreless first and second, Southern Nazarene (12-27, 8-19 GAC) jumped on the scoreboard.
Kriston Shumaker led the inning off with a walk and came around to score after
Mahina Sauer homered to left. It was Sauer's third home run of the year, and her second consecutive game with a home run.

The two runs proved to be enough for the Storm as
Katelyn Brown (10-11) was able to shut down the Ranger offense. Brown pitched a complete game shutout, her third shutout of the season. Brown held Northwestern Oklahoma State to three hits, while striking out seven. Sauer extended her hitting streak to 13 games as she went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
Jacey James and
Amy Reynolds both went 1-for-2 with a stolen base.

In the nightcap, Northwestern Oklahoma State got out to an early lead, as the Rangers were able to score a run in the second. The Rangers lead didn't last very long as SNU took the lead in the third. After Shumaker was hit by a pitch, James homered to left. The home run was James' first of the season. The Crimson Storm led 2-1 going into the fourth.

NWOSU retook the lead in the fourth, as a two-run Ranger home run made it a 3-2 game. The Rangers were able to hold the Storm scoreless in the fifth, sixth, and seventh on their way to a 3-2 victory.

Sauer took the loss (2-8) as she gave up three runs on three hits in 3.1 innings of work. Southern Nazarene was held to four hits in the contest, two of those coming from James. James went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
