ADA, Okla. — Southern Nazarene got its 20
th win of the season as it split with East Central Sunday afternoon. The Tigers took the opening game 2-0 and the Crimson Storm rebounded to take the second game 5-3.
In the opener, Southern Nazarene couldn't get anything going on the offensive end. Although the Storm were able to get runners in scoring position in every inning but the fifth and sixth, they failed to come through with big hit when those runners were in scoring position.
Katelyn Brown pitched five shutout innings, before giving up two runs to the Tigers in the sixth. Those two runs proved to be enough for East Central to get the 2-0 win.
Brown (14-14) took the loss after giving up two runs, on six hits, in six innings of work.
Sam Smith went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
In the nightcap, East Central used a solo home run in the first to take a 1-0 lead. However, Southern Nazarene had an answer in the second. The Storm loaded the bases up, then struck for two runs as a
Logan Sundbye single to right scored
Riley Brown and
Amy Reynolds. SNU added another run after a
Jacey James fielder's choice scored
Hope Martin.
Katelyn Brown made it a 4-1 game when she drove in Sundbye with a single to right. The Crimson Storm used the help a wild pitch to added one more run in the top of the second to lead the Tigers 5-1 going into the third.
East Central got a run back in the fourth, but that's the last time they would score in the game as Southern Nazarene was able to hold ECU hitless in the final three frames.
Brooke Tate (2-9) got her second win of the season after as she gave up three runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of work. Sundbye went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Kriston Shumaker went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
