SNU Sweeps Savage Storm

SNU won 4-1 in the opener and 7-4 the second game to SOSU

DURANT, Okla. — Southern Nazarene completed its first sweep of the season as it downed Southeastern Oklahoma State 4-1 in the opener and 7-4 in the second game Friday afternoon.

Southern Nazarene (19-27, 15-19 GAC) got out to an early lead as a Katelyn Brown single drove in Jacey James for the first run of the game. Southeastern Oklahoma State came back with a run in the second to knot the game up at 1-1.

The Storm worked some two-out magic in the third as Katelyn Brown got aboard with a single, then came around to score after Mahina Sauer belted her fifth home run of the season.

SNU extended its lead in the fourth. Jacey James hit her fifth double of the season to score Kai Sanchez, giving the Storm a 4-1 lead.

Katelyn Brown held the Savage Storm scoreless in the fifth, sixth, and seventh on her way to claiming her 14th win of the season. Brown (14-11) gave up one run on six hits in seven innings of work. James went 2-for-3 an RBI double and a run scored. Katelyn Brown went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Sauer went 1-for-3 with a home run.

In the nightcap, Southern Nazarene used the help of the long ball to jump to a 3-0 lead. Katelyn Brown and Riley Brown both hit singles, then came around to score after Hannah LeBeau hit her fifth home run of the season. Katelyn Brown made it a 4-0 game in the third when she hit her third home run of the season.

The Storm kept the runs coming as they added three more runs in the fifth to make it a 7-0 game. With two outs and runners on the corners, a Sam Smith single scored Cheyenne Reynolds. Then Amy Reynolds followed that up with an RBI single of her own. Reynolds' single scored Smith and LeBeau to give SNU a seven run advantage.

Southeastern Oklahoma State was able to rally for four runs in the seventh, but that's all they would get as the Storm completed the four-game sweep. Brooke Tate (1-8) got her first win of the season as she pitched six shutout innings. Tate gave up just four hits while striking out one.

Southern Nazarene notched 11 hits, nine of those coming from Katelyn Brown, Riley Brown, LeBeau and Smith. Smith went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Katelyn Brown went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Riley Brown went 2-for 3 with a run scored and LeBeau wnet 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
